Creating a watermark image in Photoshop
You can create a reusable watermark from text or a logo by making it semi-transparent and adding subtle layer effects. The original example creates a transparent text watermark that can later be placed over another image.
1. Create a transparent document
Create a new image. The original example uses 225 × 32 px, but you can choose dimensions that match your intended watermark. Set the background to transparent.
2. Add the watermark text
Select the Type Tool, choose a bold font and enter the text you want to use as the watermark. The original example uses Arial Black at 30 px.
3. Reduce Fill Opacity
Open the Layers panel (Window > Layers or F7 in the version shown), select the text layer, open Blending Options and reduce Fill Opacity. The original example uses 25%.
4. Apply Bevel and Emboss
Select Bevel and Emboss and adjust the settings to create an embossed watermark. The original example uses Outer Bevel, Smooth technique, high depth and adjusted lighting values.
5. Save the finished watermark
The watermark is now ready. Continue adjusting the layer-style values if you want a different appearance, then save it in a format that preserves transparency when needed.
