Lasso Tool for selecting areas in an image

Choose a Lasso Tool

Open the Lasso Tool group to choose the Lasso, Polygonal Lasso or Magnetic Lasso tool. These tools are useful when the area you need to select does not match a fixed geometric shape.

Freehand Lasso Tool

Select the Lasso Tool and drag around the desired area with the mouse. Bring the pointer back to the starting point to close the selection. The completed selection is shown by a dotted boundary.

Polygonal Lasso Tool

The Polygonal Lasso Tool creates straight-edged selection segments. Click around the object to place points, then close the selection by joining the last point to the starting point.

The original tutorial also demonstrates using Alt while working with a freehand segment.

Magnetic Lasso Tool

The Magnetic Lasso Tool places fastening points while following a visible edge. Move around the subject until the selection closes. If a recent fastening point is misplaced, use Delete to step back through recent points.
