Drawing rectangles and squares with Photoshop Rectangle Tool
The Rectangle Tool is a shape tool used to draw rectangular shapes. The original tutorial also demonstrates constraining the shape to a square and notes that shape opacity and mode can be changed from the options bar.
Select the Rectangle Tool
Choose the Rectangle Tool from the shape tools.
Draw a rectangle
Position the pointer inside the work area, then click and drag to draw a rectangle at the required size.
Draw a square
In the workflow shown in this tutorial, hold Shift while dragging when you want to constrain the rectangle to a square.
