Installing ASP & Web Server
Classic ASP runs through Internet Information Services (IIS). On supported Windows editions, IIS and the Classic ASP module are optional Windows features; they are not enabled in every default installation.
Enable IIS and Classic ASP
- Open Turn Windows features on or off (or Server Manager on Windows Server).
- Enable Internet Information Services.
- Under World Wide Web Services → Application Development Features, enable ASP. IIS may also enable the required ISAPI components.
- Open IIS Manager and confirm that the site or application you want to use is running.
- Test IIS with
http://localhost/, then place a simple.asppage in the site's physical folder and request it through IIS.
Historical note: Personal Web Server (PWS), Windows 95/98 setup steps, and Windows 2000-era IIS instructions are legacy deployment methods. They are useful when maintaining very old systems, but they are not the recommended setup for a current IIS installation.
