jQuery UI Slide Effect

The jQuery UI slide effect moves an element in or out along one axis.

This is a jQuery UI effect, so the page using it must load jQuery UI in addition to jQuery.

The general form is $(selector).effect(effectName, options, duration, complete). The options available depend on the selected effect.

• direction: Choose "left", "right", "up" or "down". Default: "left".
• distance: Distance in pixels. By default it follows the element width or height for the chosen direction.
• duration: Animation duration.
• complete: Function called after completion.

$( "#element" ).effect( "slide", { direction: "up", distance: 60 }, 600, function () {
    // Runs after the effect finishes.
});

Default slide effect

$( "#d1" ).effect( "slide" );

Run from a button

$( "#b1" ).on( "click", function () {
    $( "#d1" ).effect( "slide" );
});

Change the direction

$( "#d1" ).effect( "slide", { direction: "up" } );

Change the distance

$( "#d1" ).effect( "slide", { distance: 60 } );

Combine distance with a callback

$( "#b1" ).on( "click", function () {
    $( "#d1" ).effect( "slide", { distance: 200 }, 5000, function () {
        alert( "The slide effect has finished." );
    });
});

When to Use This Effect Top ↑

Use this effect when the animation itself helps explain a state change or draws attention to an element. For routine interfaces, keep motion short and purposeful so it does not distract from the content.
