A mailto: URL asks the visitor's device to open its configured email application with a new message. It does not send email by itself, and it may do nothing useful when no mail client is configured.
<a href="mailto:admin@sitename.com">Email us</a>
<a href="mailto:admin@sitename.com?subject=Website%20question">Email about the website</a>
Additional fields are query parameters. URL-encode spaces and special characters rather than inserting raw text.
<a href="mailto:admin@sitename.com?cc=support@sitename.com&subject=Feedback&body=Dear%20Team%2C">Send feedback</a>
Email addresses placed directly in HTML are public to visitors and automated crawlers. For support or lead capture, an accessible HTML form with server-side handling can provide a more predictable experience and validation.
Use descriptive text such as “Email customer support” rather than exposing a long encoded mailto: URL as the link label.
